BA in American Studies

History students can enroll the American Studies Track via Studielink. When you re-enroll in History for another year, choose the track Amerikanistiek rather than Geschiedenis (algemeen programma).

The Minor in American Studies is open to students from all disciplines, including History. To enroll in the Minor, follow the instructions available at the UvA Studiegids.

MA in American Studies

For information about application to the MA Program in American Studies, see the Graduate School of Humanities website.

The Master’s in American Studies is open for application to all students with a Bachelor’s degree in History from the UvA or from another accredited university. But American Studies is also an interdisciplinary pursuit: the program is open to students with other Bachelor’s degrees in the humanities, social sciences, or hard sciences, provided they have successfully followed a minor in American Studies or 30 credits worth of courses relating to American culture and history. That includes but is not limited to: English, media studies, sociology, literary studies, anthropology, cultural studies, political science, European studies, art history, or communication science. The Examinations Board will decide whether you meet this prerequisite on the basis of your application file.

The level of the Bachelor’s degree from a foreign higher education institution must be equal to three years of Dutch university education, to be judged by the Examinations Board.
